My name is Julio and this is my wife Raiza, hi, and we'd like to share with you our experience. A little bit over three years ago, we had an IRS agent visit our employers, our friends, and other acquaintances, to ask questions about our taxes, and our income, and our jobs, and what we were doing, and what was happening in our lives. Unbeknownst to us, we were never notified that this process was going on.
I happened to be an elected official at the time, looking to aspire for higher office. Raiza is a stay-at-home mom that takes care of five boys, and all of a sudden, we started getting questions from friends, acquaintances, partners, employers, asking us; hey I had this agent show up, and ask us some questions about you.
And so we started inquiring, what questions what about, and none of it ever made any sense to us because why weren't we notified, why weren't we, why didn't anyone talk to us, they spoke to the media before they spoke to us, they did speak to the media before they spoke to us but, we had a CPA, who had been a former IRS agent, we did our taxes did everything on a timely basis, followed the law, paid our taxes, did everything that we needed to do.
Human instinct, when someone accuses you of something falsely, your first instinct is to prove yourself innocent, to go out I want to I want to prove it to them, get all the paperwork get everything ready, let's get all the files let's go down there let's go talk to them let's go talk to those agents let's go down in the Department of Justice let's make sure that they understand that we are innocent let me bring her mine our entire life, that was a mistake.
At the end of the day, a year and a half later almost two years later after that interview that was what was said in that room with an attorney present, with our family attorney present, what was said in that room was exactly the only thing, that was ever used, an attempted use against us and was what would ended up getting us indicted.
And I know that this goes against everything that our justice system represents but unfortunately for better for worse that's how it is so you have to go into it very wary of who you talk to, what you do, how you do things even if you know in your heart of hearts that you are innocent because to all, to everybody, on the other side that's trying to trying to figure out what the truth is, they're not looking for the truth.
If it wasn't for the guidance of David Garvin if it wasn't for him not only being an attorney, but being a friend, turning into part psychologist, like you know going through this whole process it is a it is a especially in our case where it was not only me, it was also Raiza, that involves all of our kids our entire family, so having David, his staff, his family because they get involved in this process from from the beginning to the end was extremely comforting, we were not only indicted, not only we chose because of David's guidance and his preparation and giving us the confidence to make the decision, we had to make that decision, not not our attorney we had to make the decision to go forward and go to trial and prove our innocence.
And once we made that decision as a family to move forward, David never wavered, David wasn't trying ever to get us to cut a deal, or to end this sooner, he was there for the long run. And at the end of the day we were proven innocent, we showed this community with the backing of the jury, that we were innocent of everything that they had charged us with.
But during that process, during that over two year process, if it wouldn't have been for David's guidance and balancing all the other pressures that you get, we would have never been here be able to give you this testimonial, and so if you ever find yourself in a situation that an agent's calling, an IRS agent is calling, someone is reaching out to try to get information from you, the best thing that you can do is, research, look for the best attorney in that field, and we're here to tell you that there's no doubt that that'll be David Garvin
